Call to Worship

Haudenosaunee Thanksgiving Prayer
Now we send greetings and thanks to our oldest Brother, the Sun.  Each day without fail he travels the sky from east to west, bringing the light of a new day.  He is the source of all the fires of life. With one mind we send greetings and thanks to our Brother, the Sun.

     Now our minds are one.

We put our minds together and give thanks to our oldest Grandmother, the Moon, who lights the nighttime sky.  She is the leader of women all over the world, and she governs the movement of the ocean tides.  By her changing face we measure time, and it is the Moon who watches over the arrival of children here on earth.  With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to our Grandmother, the Moon.

     Now our minds are one.

We give thanks to the Stars who are spread across the sky like jewelry.  We see them in the night, helping the moon to light the darkness and bringing dew to the gardens and growing things.  When we travel at night, they guide us home.  With our minds together as one, we send greetings and thanks to all the Stars.

    Now our minds are one.

   Offertory

One: Let us pray…

Let us pray. Gracious God, accept these gifts, and with them our lives, to be used in your service, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

November 19 Sermon

Matthew 5: 43-48 NIV

            Scripture Lesson

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
