Full-Service November 27, 2022, ” Jesus is coming” is not something some Christians are used to hearing and others see that “coming” in a peculiarly fascinating way. Let’s explore another possibility on this first Advent Sunday.

Call to Celebration

Oh, people of God, this morning we gather together inviting God to be our “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” and reminded by Advent that God with us.

So, when we pass through the waters, God is with us. When we suffer and feel hopeless, God is with us. When we are joyful and triumphant, God is with us. When we feel defeated, God is with us. When we feel like celebrating, God is with us. So, come family of God and let us worship Emmanuel together.

Blessed be the God-Child of our redemption! Yes, God is with us!

Amen.

Offertory

O Faithful One, accept the gifts of our hearts and hands and treasures.  May they be multiplied like manna in the wilderness of the Exodus and like the bread and fish on the hillside of the Gospels. We bring our gifts to celebrate the making of ministry happen in the world, our community, and with each other. And we give not because we must but because we are grateful. We do so in the hope of God’s amazing grace and in the name of Jesus Christ – God made flesh. Amen.

Scripture Lesson

Matthew 24:36-44

36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.

42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
